Social Media Zombies

 Since this is 20 century technology and social media basically runs our daily life. From smart phones tablets and home pcs technology is everywhere. Currently the biggest thing around is social media. From all ages mostly everyone nowadays communicates/interacts with social media. Social media was intended for the purpose of sharing wholesome content in moderation. But with the lack of self control it has been turning people into social media zombies! I say this because people just carelessly scroll and scroll for hours on end. Also all people care about is other users liking their posts. So they are always on the apps checking to see if their post has gotten any views or likes. Paired with the lack of self control these social media platforms turn people into mindless beings staring down at a screen and walking at the same time, sometimes even bumping into things. I have witnessed this first hand, its crazy to see people walk straight into a large object just because they are carelessly scrolling. The article "Is Social Media Zombifying the Youth of This Generation?" says that "Just like the real zombies there is no end goal to social media it is just to scroll through."  this goes to show how zombified people have really become. There isn't a set goal at all they just scroll just to scroll.

Since social media is so rampant now several users get their news from social media it self. The most popular of the apps being Twitter. This app is so popular that the president himself gives the country updates through it. Most people normally don't question if the news/information they receive through social media is true or not. They take it and run with it thats why false information or fake news is always looming on the internet To further help the statement of Social media Zombifying people, most people don't have the attention span to read a whole news article so all they do is either read the headlines or they just watch a summary from another source. By doing this it makes them unknowledgeable to whats going on around them. And just like zombies they are oblivious to whats surrounding them.

 Another MAJOR point, especially in these unprecedented times social media is playing a huge role in this election. Honestly i think this might be the most important and crucial election America has ever seen. With the effects of Corona officials cant have campaigns like they used too. Everything just goes straight back to social media. Almost everywhere you can see ads for different politicians. Actually just today i was on youtube and ads just kept flooding my video feeds. And with that another point can be made. If people just believe everything they see on social media without finding the stone cold facts these app developers can show us anything they want. Or even hide what they dont want to see. In the article Social Media Usage Is At An All-Time High. That Could Mean A Nightmare For Democracy they state that have "more than 4,000 pieces of content related to COVID as false" on facebook alone. Thats a-lot of information that is going around the internet confusing people. Thats why it is imperative that we become diligent and smart about social media instead of zombies endlessly and carelessly scrolling and believing information.
